Phew. Can you believe it’s almost December (again)? And with the end of the year approaching, it means that it’s time for CSCCE’s annual community potluck – an opportunity to connect, share, and reflect (festive accessories encouraged, but not required!).
This call is for:
- Members of the CSCCE community of practice – current and future! (if you’re not already a member of our free Slack-based community of practice, you can request to join here)
- Anyone working in STEM and adjacent fields whose role involves collaboration or community building
- Anyone who would appreciate a community space in which to mark the transition from 2024 to 2025 – with scaffolded reflections and opportunities to share and connect

About CSCCE potlucks
This will be our sixth annual end-of-year community potluck. The idea is that the call is split into three “courses,” like a celebratory meal, with each course inviting participation from everyone present, potluck style (if you’re unfamiliar, a potluck is a gathering where everyone brings one dish to share). You know we love metaphors!
Over the years, our courses have looked a little different, but generally involve a mixture of reflection, discussion, and short lightning talks. The main course tends to be the most structured, with CSCCE scaffolding an activity or inviting community members to present, and the appetizer and dessert courses tend to involve personal reflections and group discussion.
This year’s potluck courses
Appetizer: Dips, chips, and veggies
We’ll start our call with a selection of snacks! If you’re planning to join us, choose one of the following prompts and come prepared to share:
- DIPS: What content have you enjoyed this year? Maybe it’s a podcast, a book, or an article that inspired you to do something a little different in your day-to-day work, or a photo, painting, or movie that inspired you. Bring a link!
- CHIPS: Is there a “life hack” or daily practice you’ve implemented this year that’s stuck? What was it and how did it help you? Give a brief demo!
- VEGGIES: Is there something you created/organized/hosted this year that you’d like to tell others about? Maybe it’s something you’re proud of, or maybe it’s something you wish had gone a little differently. Tell us a story!
Main: Fire up the grill – BYO goals!
Our main course this year will be an opportunity to think about what you’d like 2025 to look like and then cook up your selections on the CSCCE grill! We’ll scaffold a shared workspace where we can curate our own “vision board” for the year ahead, and then you can choose to tell the group a little bit about your vision, or ask others about their goals.
Dessert: Digestif
To close out this year’s potluck, we’ll hold space for individual reflection and forward planning. You can expect a short series of prompts to guide the exercise, and a closing activity to wind down our time together.

Video or not? You’re welcome to turn on your webcam if you like but fine if you prefer just to use audio.
Our community calls generally last 90 minutes to allow time for discussion, with and presentations happening in the first 60 minutes. We understand that virtual meetings have a tendency to overrun and overlap, so please don’t feel sheepish about arriving late or leaving early. We’d love to see you either way!
Please note: We won’t be recording this month’s call to respect everyone’s ability to show up authentically in the virtual room and reflect on the good and the bad bits of their role, without worrying about who will potentially see a recording.
