Resources for remote working, virtual meetings, and inclusive facilitation

This month, CSCCE expands its training offerings with the pilot of our 6-week “Nurturing Online Communities” course. In this course, we will delve into the social science research that underpins how community members behave in virtual spaces. We will also use that literature to support small group design clinics to troubleshoot participants’ own challenges.

We are also halfway through the third cohort of “Community Engagement Fundamentals,” which applies CSCCE-developed frameworks to real-world communities and gives both new and more seasoned community managers a strong and strategic foundation. If you’d like to be the first to know when we announce our May 2021 training dates, please pre-register here.

Finally, we expanded our teaching staff this month, welcoming Jenny East as our newest trainer. Jenny, previously with the Oregon Sea Grant at Oregon State University, will join lead trainer Camille Santistevan, along with center director Lou Woodley, in developing and facilitating CSCCE’s modular, online trainings and client-facing support.

March community call: Virtual and hybrid meetings

In this month’s community call we’re going to explore community member experiences with virtual events, and look ahead to a likely increase in hybrid offerings. Join us tomorrow, 17 March, at 11am US EDT to connect and brainstorm with your fellow community managers and meeting organizers.

February’s community call recap – Scientific community managers share their experiences of working from home

Almost one year on from the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic, we checked in with members of the CSCCE community to find out how they have adapted to working remotely. Our February community call featured presentations, polls, and breakout rooms to encourage resource sharing and conversation, acknowledging that there is no one way to work productively at home, nor is any one resource a panacea.

CSCCE Community Tools Trial 2.0 Recap: Virtual networking events

In late February, we relaunched our Community Tools Trials with the goal of addressing specific member-suggested use cases related to hosting online events. The first of this “2.0” series focused on virtual networking events, with a group of about 20 members of our community of practice convening to brainstorm solutions and try out formats and tools.
