Our learning program goals
Those familiar with CSCCE and our work over the last few years will know about CEFP, our year-long fellowship program that ran twice, in 2017 and 2019. CEFP was primarily an in-person experience, with three opportunities to meet throughout the year and ongoing virtual connections in between. The COVID-19 pandemic has, not surprisingly, shifted the goal posts somewhat, and made us rethink how we offer professional development training to community managers in STEM. So, we are looking to take what we’ve learned from CEFP, as well as over a year of all-virtual learning, and build out a curriculum that captures the essence of CEFP while intentionally being more inclusive, expansive, and personalized to the learner.
For this program, we envision a collection of courses and cohort-based activities through which learners chart a path that meets their own career goals and ultimately gives them the skills to level-up in their work. Our teaching style is guided by social learning theory, and we are keen to maintain the cohort experience that we cultivated in CEFP and our first five sessions of Community Engagement Fundamentals. We want to ensure that our training offerings meet the needs of our community members, and will continue seeking feedback through focus groups and surveys.
What we’re looking for with this hire
We would like to bring in a new team member who is already well versed in effective and engaging training methods, comfortable with online learning systems, and ready to take the next step in their career. The Learning Program Manager will take the lead in conducting member research, proposing new courses to develop, and crafting learning paths throughout a new STEM community management training program. They will be involved in course development and training delivery, managed by Center Director, Lou Woodley and collaborating closely with our Lead Trainer and Curriculum Development Specialist, Camille Santistevan.
We’re also looking for someone with a strong connection to the STEM and/or scholarly communications ecosystem. That might look like a postgraduate degree in a STEM field, or significant (5+ years) experience working in these fields. And, we’re looking for someone with a demonstrated aptitude for program management or managing large projects with multiple moving parts.
