New resource for Zulip community managers: A CC BY Quick Start Guide template

In January 2026, we hosted a community Tools Trial on the open-source community platform Zulip, which some communities are using or considering as an open-source alternative to Slack. It was a really informative session, and our expert speakers did an excellent job of highlighting how the platform works, how to manage a migration from Slack, and how you as a community manager can make life easier for your members, as well as showcasing some of Zulip’s more “advanced” features.

You can find a recap of the call in this blog post (which includes recordings and resources), but that’s not the only outcome from the Trial! We worked with speakers Samantha Wittke and Danny Garside to create a CC BY Zulip Quick Start Guide – and it’s now available for download and reuse!

New section of the CSCCE glossary focuses on virtual events

One of the many resources we curate here on the CSCCE website is a glossary of terms related to community management in STEM. We’ve just added another 60 terms, all related to running virtual events!

This list of new glossary terms was co-created with members of our community of practice during our May 2022 community call. We’ve added them to our searchable glossary, and you can also download a PDF of the collection from Zenodo.

May’s community call: Revisiting virtual events

Join us on 18 May at 3pm UTC / 11am EDT for a conversation about virtual events: what we’ve learned after two years of online gatherings. We’ll make space for discussion, considering what the future of hybrid events look like, and host writing sprints to co-create new resources.

You can join the call on Zoom, and add it to your calendar: iCal | Google

Opportunities to co-create with CSCCE in 2022

Co-creating resources with members of our community of practice is an important part of what we do here at CSCCE. It adds depth and breadth to the resources we publish while also being an opportunity for members to both gain a citable publication and give back to the community. In many cases, working on a CSCCE project also leads to new professional connections and working relationships that persist long after we publish the final product.

So, as we continue our series of forward-looking blog posts, we’re thinking about the co-creating and collaboration opportunities that will exist over the next few months. If any of these opportunities pique your interest, let us know by emailing info@www.cscce.org
